Hoa Phat steel products certified to meet greenhouse gas inventory standard

Vietnamese steel giant Hoa Phat Group has announced that BSI - the UK's leading international certification organisation - certified ISO 14064-1:2018 standard and ISO 14067:2018 on greenhouse gas inventory for steel products of its subsidiary - Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel JSC.

Quang Ngai (VNA) – Vietnamese steel giant Hoa Phat Group has announcedthat BSI - the UK's leading international certification organisation - certifiedISO 14064-1:2018 standard and ISO 14067:2018 on greenhouse gas inventory forsteel products of its subsidiary - Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel JSC.

The event marks asignificant milestone in the company's journey towards sustainable developmentand greenhouse gas emission reduction.

Vice Director of the HoaPhat Dung Quat Steel JSC Ho Duc Tho said collecting data, compiling reports,and quantifying greenhouse gas emissions are crucial tasks for the firm. The company will continue developing a plan to manage and report periodicgreenhouse gas inventory, and maximising the digitisation of data collectiontools to facilitate traceability and provide quick, accurate information.

The certification isalso an initial success for the firm in proactively updating and implementingsolutions to meet and enhance capabilities according to new requirements, thus pavingthe way for expanding exports of other high-quality product lines to marketsworldwide in the future, Tho said.

As the largest steel manufacturer in Southeast Asia, the Hoa Phat Group utilises advanced closed-loop cycle production technologies from G7 countries in itssteel production activities in steel complexes.

Hoa Phat hasmeticulously planned and allocated up to 30% of its investment capital forenvironmental measures. Its steel complexes employ a series of solutions and thelatest technologies to optimize production and save energy.

In 2023, the total electricity generation of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel JSC’s thermal power plant reached 1.96 billionkWh, enabling the company to meet 90% of its electricity demand for production.This electricity generation has contributed to environmental protection byreducing CO2 emissions compared to coal-fired power generation methods with equivalentcapacity./.

The elongated tortoise is one of the most beautiful and rare terrestrial tortoise species, listed in both the Vietnam Red Data Book and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. The stump-tailed macaque, scientifically known as Macaca arctoides, is classified as a rare and endangered species under Group IIB in Vietnam’s regulations on endangered wildlife management.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to push urban green coverage above 1 sq.m per person by 2030, while stepping up greenhouse gas reduction initiatives on the way to Net Zero by 2050.
