Traditional Tet dishes introduced to int’l friends in New York
As the Lunar New Year (Tet) is just around the corner, the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York held an event on February 7 to introduce traditional Tet dishes of Vietnam and celebrate the recognition of the Lunar New Year as a UN floating holiday.

New York (VNA) – As the Lunar New Year (Tet) is just around the corner, the PermanentMission of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York held an event on February 7to introduce traditional Tet dishes of Vietnam and celebrate the recognition ofthe Lunar New Year as a UN floating holiday.
The banquetwas attended by a number of diplomats in New York, including ambassadors andchargés d’affaires of all missions of the member and observer countries of theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Vietnamese National Assemblydelegation attending a joint Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) - UN hearing, and theASEAN Chair’s special envoy Myanmar.
Highlighting the importance of Tet in thetraditional culture of Vietnam and many Asian countries, Ambassador Dang HoangGiang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, expressed his hope thatin the Year of the Dragon 2024, member states of the UN, especially the ASEANCommittee in New York, will continue strengthening cooperation and solidarityand jointly seek solutions to global challenges, thus contributing a world ofpeace, stability, and sustainable development.
At the event, the ambassador, his spouse, andstaff members of the Vietnamese mission prepared and offered the country’straditional and typical Tet dishes to the guests.
On December 22, 2023, the UN General Assemblyadopted a resolution recognising the Lunar New Year as a UN floating holiday. Theresolution says this is a holiday in many member states and also encourages UNagencies not to hold meetings on the first day of the Lunar New Year.
The recognition came as a result of the campaigningcoordination at the UN. Vietnam was one of the 12 countries submitting the jointproposal on this regard to UN leaders in August 2023 and also actively campaignedfor the recognition./.

The Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday is not only a time for people to relax after a busy year but also an occasion for family members to reunite and commemorate their ancestors.

To uphold this cultural beauty, one overseas Vietnamese in Australia has been diligently working to introduce calligraphy to international friends and the younger Vietnamese generation abroad.
Technology is similarly enriching exhibitions at the Vietnam Women’s Museum in Hanoi. Wartime letters, a typewriter and other artefacts linked to former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh have been digitally integrated with collections held at the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City. Through projection mapping, 3D displays and a virtual reality recreation of the Paris Peace Agreement, visitors can engage more deeply with the life and achievements of one of Vietnam’s most prominent diplomats.
The festival is expected to bring together around 900 artists, producers and film professionals from Vietnam and abroad, including more than 200 international guests. This marks the largest edition since DANAFF was first launched in 2023, highlighting its growing appeal within the film industry.
Bilingual book, exhibition honour Ho Chi Minh’s legacy
