Women’s volleyball, shooting teams win big at Victory Cup

With outstanding performance in 2023, the Vietnamese women’s volleyball and shooting teams scored triumphs at the Victory Cup Gala for the best players and coaches of the year, which was held by the Sports Authority of Vietnam, Vietnam Cable Television and Vietcontent in Hanoi on January 16.

Hanoi (VNA) – With outstanding performance in 2023, the Vietnamesewomen’s volleyball and shooting teams scored triumphs at the Victory Cup Galafor the best players and coaches of the year, which was held by the SportsAuthority of Vietnam, Vietnam Cable Television and Vietcontent in Hanoi on January 16.

Volleyballstar Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy won the awards for Female Athlete of the Year andMost Favoured Athlete of the Year. 2023 was a resounding success for Thuy andher teammates as they became the champions of the Asian Women’s Club VolleyballChampionship and the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup.Besides, they won berths to compete at the FIVB Challenger Cup and FIVBVolleyball Women’s Club World Championship. Thuy is also the backbone of the PFUBlue Cats in the Japanese League.

Thevolleyball team got the Team of the Year Award while its coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet receivedthe Coach of the Year Award.

Shiningat the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD 19) after defeating many strongopponents to take Vietnam’s first gold at the sport event, marksman Pham QuangHuy secured the Male Athlete of the Year Award. Behind the success of Huy andthe national shooting team was Park Chung Gun who was honoured as the ForeignCoach of 2023.

Meanwhile, the Teammates of the Year Award went to four women of the spak takraw team who wongold medals in the world championship, Asian Games and SEA Games. Player TranThi Ngoc Yen was honoured in the Young Player of the Year category.

The Athlete with Disabilities of the Year Award honoured weightlifter Le VanCong for the third time.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to former Director of the Sports Authorityof Vietnam Le Buu, while the women’s football team received the Image of theYear Award.

Considered asthe Oscar award of Vietnamese sports, the Victory Cup honours top candidates in 11 different categories. A big bonus of about 750 million VND (30,600 USD) wasawarded to the winners.

Organised since 2015 with two years cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic,the Victory Cup has affirmed its prime position as a leading nationalsport award. It has received strong response from sportsmen and fans.

Accordingto Director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam Dang Ha Viet, the gala not onlyhonoured excellent coaches, athletes and teams but also encouraged the sportsector to make efforts to reap further achievements in the coming time.

In 2023, Vietnamese athletes took part in two key sport events, namely the 32nd SEA Games in May in Cambodia and the 19th Asian Games in October inChina.

Weeks after these Games, disabled athletes also took part in the 12th ParaGames in Cambodia and 4th Asian Para Games in China.

Many of them brought gold medals home, strengthening position of Vietnamesesport in the regional and continental maps./.

To mark International Children's Day on June 1, the Union of Vietnamese Organisations in Russia organised a friendly football tournament, giving young players an opportunity to showcase their talent, pursue their passion and strengthen ties with one another.

The 280-page collection, translated into Vietnamese by poet Tran Le Khanh, brings together works inspired by Weigl’s experiences, observations and reflections on Hanoi.

Technology is similarly enriching exhibitions at the Vietnam Women’s Museum in Hanoi. Wartime letters, a typewriter and other artefacts linked to former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh have been digitally integrated with collections held at the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City. Through projection mapping, 3D displays and a virtual reality recreation of the Paris Peace Agreement, visitors can engage more deeply with the life and achievements of one of Vietnam’s most prominent diplomats.

The festival is expected to bring together around 900 artists, producers and film professionals from Vietnam and abroad, including more than 200 international guests. This marks the largest edition since DANAFF was first launched in 2023, highlighting its growing appeal within the film industry.

Bilingual book, exhibition honour Ho Chi Minh’s legacy

The opening night of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival-DIFF 2026 officially sparked a six-night fireworks festival from May 30 to July 11.

Among the highlights are the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Asian Championship and the WDSF World Ranking Events, which will gather about 4,000 athletes from 37 countries and regions in the largest dancesport competition ever staged in Vietnam.
