Pyrolysis technology improves coffee quality

The pyrolysis technology applied in coffee production in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak has shown efficiency in reducing greenhouse gas emission and improving product quality, a survey of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) said on November 7.

Dak Lak (VNA) – The pyrolysis technology applied in coffeeproduction in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak has shown efficiency inreducing greenhouse gas emission and improving product quality, a survey of theUnited Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) said on November 7.

Pyrolysis is thermochemical decomposition of organic material at elevatedtemperatures in the absence of oxygen. Pyrolysis of coffee husks creates heatwhich can be used to dry coffee beans and leaves a solid residue, which is richin carbon content and can be used to improve soil fertility while minimisingCO2 emissions.

Three years ago, Viet Hien Company Limited in the province was the recipient ofthe pyrolysis technology transfer under the “Minimisation of Industrial Wastefor Low Carbon Production” project funded by the Swiss Federal Department ofEconomic Affairs through the UNIDO. Besides disseminating the pyrolysisequipment in Dak Lak province, the firm successfully transferred the technologyto Brazil.

Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Maser Mallor lauded the efficiency of pyrolysistechnology used in coffee production in Vietnam, saying that it helps lowergreenhouse gas emission while saving electricity and water.

She affirmed that Vietnam is among prioritised countries in the SwissGovernment’s economic cooperation programme, and her country will continuesupporting Vietnam to improve its capacity in environmental protection andresponse to climate change.

According to the UNIDO, during 2013-2017, the project backed clean production at16 rice and 10 coffee processing plants, saving 1.08 million kWh per year,equivalent to more than 80,000 USD, and cutting 621 tonnes of CO2 eachyear.-VNA

Fostering the habit of using legitimate copyrighted publications, respecting authors’ rights, and promoting a healthy digital consumption culture will help create a more sustainable environment for the publishing industry in the future.

According to Dr. Le Minh Nghia, Chairman of the Vietnam Financial Consulting Association (VFCA), AI has become a key driver reshaping the global financial industry. In Vietnam, the technology is already widely used in banking and finance for credit analysis, electronic customer identification (eKYC), risk management, service personalisation and real-time transaction processing.

Since the Prime Minister issued Directive 38, which directs ministries and agencies to strengthen efforts against IP violations, 1,438 cases had been detected and processed as of May 27.

The workshop aims to achieve three key objectives providing a platform for academic exchange and strengthening collaboration between leading international scientists and young researchers, including doctoral students; promoting multidimensional scientific dialogue on major open questions in the field; and initiating new directions for international research cooperation with the active participation of Vietnam's physics community.
