Exhibition of paintings donated by Japanese collector opens in Da Nang
An exhibition of 22 paintings in a collection of works by Vietnamese artists titled “Houei” (Prosperity) of Japanese collector Itoh Toyokichi opened in the central city on March 29, on the occasion of the 46 years of the liberation day of Da Nang city (March 29).

Da Nang (VNA) – An exhibition of 22 paintings in a collection of works by Vietnameseartists titled “Houei” (Prosperity) of Japanese collector Itoh Toyokichi openedin the central city on March 29, on the occasion of the 46 years of theliberation day of Da Nang city (March 29).
The Japanese collectorhas presented the city with 238 paintings in the collection and lent 49 othersfor 10 years.
On showcase this time areoil, watercolour and silk paintings by Nguyen Gia Tri, Tu Duyen and Cao TrongThem. Most of them were created between 1944 and 1993.
The exhibition will bethe first among a series of displays to be held in the coming time to introducethe artworks to the public. The Da Nang Fine Arts Museum is tasked with theconservation and selection of works for future exhibitions.
Itoh, aged 80, beganto collect works of Vietnamese painters after his first trip to the country inlate 1986.
Since 2005, he hasheld a host of exhibitions in Japan and abroad in the hope that the valuableworks will promote Vietnam’s historical and cultural values to people of othercountries.
The collection includesworks of many well-known painters graduating from the Indochina College of FineArts (the predecessor of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts), such as NguyenGia Tri, Tran Van Can, Tu Duyen, To Lien and Duong Bich Lien, among others.
The Japanesecollector’s donation is of great importance in terms of diplomacy andpeople-to-people exchange between Vietnam and Japan, Vy said, adding that italso contributes to Vietnam’s fine art./.
