    Vietnam’s leading violinist Bui Cong Duy will perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto at the HCM City Opera House on October 31 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birthday.

    HCMCity (VNS/VNA) –     Vietnam’s leading violinist Bui Cong Duy willperform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto atthe HCM City Opera House on October 31 to celebrate the 250th anniversary ofBeethoven’s birthday.  

    Duy, deputy rector for concert activities at the Vietnam National Academyof Music, will perform with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra andOpera (HBSO).

    Beethoven composed Violin Concerto in1806. It was first performed in 1845 by Austrian violinist Franz Clement,but the performance was unsuccessful.

    In 1844, the three-movement concerto was played by 12-year-old violinist JosephJoachim with the orchestra of the London Philharmonic Society conducted byFelix Mendelssohn. Since then it has had innumerable recordings.

    Duy, 39, who began playing violin at the age of four under the instruction ofhis father, violinist Bui Cong Thanh, is a graduate of the TchaikovskyNational Music College in Moscow.

    He has won top prizes at international competitions, including first prize anda gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for YoungMusicians in St Petersburg in 1997.

    He has performed at concerts in many European and Asian countries, andat prestigious halls such as Berliner Symphoniker in Germany andCapella Concert Hall in Russia. 

    Duy has been a featured soloist in many important events such as the SpecialConcert for the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Hà Nội in 2015, SpecialConcert for APEC 2017 in Vietnam, and welcoming concerts for the Presidentof Russia and the President of the Republic of Korea.

    He has served as a jury member at international competitions such as the VIInternational Violin Competition in Astana, Kazakhstan in 2016, and the 8th and10th Tchaikovsky International Competitions for Young Musicians in Moscow in2014 and in Astana in 2017.

    He has been artistic director of the Vietnam Classical Players and executivedirector of the Việt Nam Connection Music Festival since 2015.

    The HBSO symphony orchestra will continue the night with Beethoven’s Symphony No 6, also known as the Pastoral Symphony.

    The five-movement symphony was composed in 1808, and was first played in thesame year at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.

    Conductor Le Ha My, a graduate of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, willlead the concert.

    My has orchestrated and conducted successful concerts with YaroslavPhilharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow State Conservatory Orchestra, and the GlinkaConservatory Orchestra of Magnitogorsk City.

    Since 2010, he has collaborated with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, VietnamNational Opera and Ballet Orchestra and HBSO, and has organised severalmusical programmes with Vietnam Television (VTV).

    The Vietnam National Symphony and Orchestra (VNSO) together with guest musicians American Grace Ho and Vietnamese Bui Cong Duy will be performing classical pieces at the annual Toyota Concert in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

    Held from June 26 to 28 around West Lake, the festival featured a vibrant programme of cultural performances, exhibitions, hands-on experiences and tourism promotion activities, helping showcase Hanoi as a safe, friendly and culturally rich destination.

    After three editions under the theme "Bridging Asia", DANAFF IV has adopted the new theme "Bridging Asia to the World", reflecting its ambition to connect Vietnamese cinema more closely with regional and global film industries.

    Themed "Vision," the two teams brought the festival's qualifying round to a spectacular close with performances that combined artistic storytelling, synchronised music and cutting-edge pyrotechnic techniques.

    The pagoda preserves 896 woodblocks, including 26 sets of Buddhist texts and several unidentified pieces.

    With its larger scale and broader international participation, Sports Festival 2026 is expected to become one of Vietnam's standout sporting events this summer while enriching community activities and supporting tourism during the peak travel season.

    A series of activities have been held in Montreuil city from June 26-28 to mark the 115th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's departure for a path to national liberation (June 5) and the 80th anniversary of his 1946 state visit to France as a guest of the French Government.
