Birth anniversary of great poet Nguyen Du celebrated

Many cultural activities have been held in the central province of Ha Tinh, the hometown of great Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du (1765–1820) who is the author of the Vietnamese masterpiece, Truyen Kieu (the Tales of Kieu), to celebrate his 255th birth anniversary and 200th death anniversary.

Ha Tinh (VNA) - Many cultural activities have been held in thecentral province of Ha Tinh, the hometown of great Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du(1765–1820) who is the author of the Vietnamese masterpiece, Truyen Kieu (theTales of Kieu), to celebrate his 255th birth anniversary and 200th deathanniversary.

On September 25, the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province coordinated withthe Vietnam Association of Kieu Studies to organise a scientific seminarentitled "Vietnamese Language in Truyen Kieu (The Tale of Kieu).”

The seminar was attended by professor Phong Le, President of the VietnamAssociation of Kieu Studies, poet Tran Dang Khoa, Vice President of VietnamWriters Association, together with representatives of Ha Tinh province.

Speaking at the ceremony, professor Le affirmed that the seminar aimed tohonour and pay tribute to great poet Nguyen Du, who brought the value of theVietnamese language to a high level that no other authors have ever beencapable of.

Over hundreds of years, the beauty and vitality of the Vietnamese language inthe Tale of Kieu had shone more and more brilliant, he stressed.

The seminar also introduced 48 presentations, each of which is a way to deepenand concretise the vitality and the beauty of the Vietnamese language in theTale of Kieu.

Results of new studies on the Tale of Kieu from a linguistic perspective werealso announced, which contribute to the accuracy of the study, translation andpromotion of the epic poem.

“The seminar affirms the value and longevity of the masterpiece the Tale of Kieu,in addition to honouring Nguyen Du's significant role in promoting the beautyof the Vietnamese language in creating the masterpiece and therefore helping topromote and preserve the values of the Vietnamese language,” noted ViceChairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province Dang Quoc Vinh.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province launched the NguyenDu Heritage Conservation and Promotion Fund.

An exhibition featuring paintings, publications related to masterpiece the Taleof Kieu and the literary legacy of the great author is also taking place at hismemorial area located in Tien Dien town, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province.

The event was organised by Ha Tinh province’s department of Culture, Sports andTourism as part of celebrating activities dedicated to the great poet.

Specifically, the exhibition with the theme “The great poet Nguyen Du – TheTale of Kieu masterpiece with the hometown of Ha Tinh” will showcase 150 largeillustrations of the Tale of Kieu, 40 oil illustration paintings by painter NguyenTuan Son from Hanoi, 500 publications on the epic poem through differentperiods and Nguyen Du’s literary legacy.

According to the organisers, the paintings are expected to instill the viewerswith new inspiration about the Tale of Kieu, arouse art creativity and therebyspread its cultural values in the new era.

Meanwhile, the exhibition aims to introduce and promote celebrated poet NguyenDu’s masterpiece and other works to both domestic and international friends, aswell as educate young generations about patriotism, national pride andencourage them to contribute to the construction of the nation. It will end onSeptember 28.

During this week, many other activities have also been held to celebrate thisoccasion in Ha Tinh province – his hometown, including the ceremonies awardingprizes for the contest on learning about the author and his works and the NguyenDu Literature Prize.

In particular, a special art programme dedicated to the great poet will bebroadcast live on television on September 26./.

The festival conveyed a meaningful message on safeguarding and promoting ethnic cultural identities to both domestic and international audiences. It helped raise public awareness and community responsibility while creating new momentum for tourism development, cultural industries and traditional crafts closely associated with the lives of Cham people in the new era.

Jointly organised by the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, the Guangxi Arts University of China and the Lijiang School of Painting of Guangxi, the exhibition features more than 90 selected paintings which cover a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, flowers, birds and portraits.

Held from June 26 to 28 around West Lake, the festival featured a vibrant programme of cultural performances, exhibitions, hands-on experiences and tourism promotion activities, helping showcase Hanoi as a safe, friendly and culturally rich destination.

After three editions under the theme "Bridging Asia", DANAFF IV has adopted the new theme "Bridging Asia to the World", reflecting its ambition to connect Vietnamese cinema more closely with regional and global film industries.

This year’s race route once again left a strong impression as participants passed through some of Ly Son’s most iconic landscapes, including windswept coastal roads, dramatic volcanic rock formations and distinctive green garlic fields.

Xam singing, a folk art form with a history of more than 700 years, is not only a distinctive form of performance but also a living archive of Vietnamese cultural memory, reflecting everyday life, emotions, and aspirations across generations.

Themed "Vision," the two teams brought the festival's qualifying round to a spectacular close with performances that combined artistic storytelling, synchronised music and cutting-edge pyrotechnic techniques.

The pagoda preserves 896 woodblocks, including 26 sets of Buddhist texts and several unidentified pieces.

With its larger scale and broader international participation, Sports Festival 2026 is expected to become one of Vietnam's standout sporting events this summer while enriching community activities and supporting tourism during the peak travel season.
