Hanoi,  (VNA) - Vietnam’s teams played to draws against strong rivals inthe 10th round of the ongoing 2018 Chess Olympiadin Batumi,  Georgia, on October 4.

Vietnam’s male team,with an average Elo rating of 2576, tied with Germany (Elo 2628).

Playing with the whitepieces, Grandmaster Le Quang Liem drew with Nisipeanu Liviu-Dieter on board oneafter 52 moves.

On board two, NguyenNgoc Truong Son played to a draw with George Meier after just 28 moves.

Tran Tuan Minh and16-year-old Nguyen Anh Khoi tied with Bluebaum Matthias and Fridman Danielrespectively.

With five wins, fourdraws and one loss, the team is in 13th place out of 185 teams in the world. They will face the Philippines in the last round. With a win, Vietnam islikely to rank in the top 10.

On the women’s side,Vietnam has an average Elo of 2321. The team tied with Hungary, which has ahigher rating of 2344.

Vo Thi Kim Phung wasdefeated by Vietnamese Hungarian Hoang Thanh Trang. Meanwhile Pham Le Thao Nguyen– Son’s wife – beat Gara Anita after 55 moves despite taking the black pawns.

Nguyen Thi Mai Hungand Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong also tied with their rivals.

Vietnam will next face Azerbaijan(Elo 2369). If they win, they will also finish the prestigious event in top 10.-VNA

The Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan pledged to work closely with KVCC to organise more cultural activities, while local officials expressed support for programmes helping Korean-Vietnamese families and children better understand Vietnamese culture.

The nearly 40,000 photographs taken from the late 19th to the early 20th century by generations of EFEO scholars document the culture, history, architecture and society of Vietnam and Indochina.

The inscription collection, which is believed to be from the fifth century to 13th century, were carved on sandstone and terracotta stele, cantilevers and architectural structure beams and girders, or were engraved texts on pedestals.

It has brought together professional filmmakers, screenwriters and cultural and film activists from Vietnam and abroad.

Its participation marked an important step for the central city of Hue to expand its international partnerships, deepen integration with municipalities worldwide, and cement its role and standing as a dynamic and responsible heritage city within the Francophone network.
