Traditional theatre festival opens in Thanh Hoa

Thanh Hoa (VNA) - As many as 16 classical dramas and seven folk operaswill be performed between May 11 and 19 in central city of Thanh Hoa as part ofthe National Classical Drama and Folk Opera Festival 2019.

Eleven troupes are joining the annual event, which aims to highlightadvancements in traditional opera and create a chance for professional artiststo meet and collaborate.

According to the organisers, the troupes should perform theatrical works stagedsince 2016 which have not been performed at any contests or professionalfestivals hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the VietnamTheatrical Artists Association, the Ministry of National Defence or theMinistry of Public Security. No foreign scripts will be accepted.

The jury will reward creativity and innovation in playwriting, directing,music, fine art design, costumes and acting based on the principles ofclassical drama and traditional opera.

The jury will give an Excellent Prize to the best author, director, musicianand painter.

After the festival in downtown Thanh Hoa City, the art troupes will alsoperform five free shows for locals in various districts of the province.

Meritorious Artist Truong Hai Tho, deputy director of Thanh Hoa TraditionalArts Theatre said the organisation of the festival aims to learn from colleaguesall over the country.

“In the past few years, we have confronted variouschallenges, especially the lack of young talents and young artists to hand downthe profession. The human force of classical drama art is very limited. Webring that worry to the festival,” he said.

This has been a longstanding difficulty for professional traditional arttroupes across the country.

Popular theatres like Thanh Hoa Traditional Arts Theatre, HCM City ClassicalOpera Theatre, Nguyen Hien Dinh Classical Drama Theatre (Da Nang), Dao TanClassical Drama Theatre (Qui Nhon City), Binh Dinh Bai Choi Folk Theatre (Binh DinhProvince), Quang Nam Opera Theatre (Quang Nam Province) will each perform oneplay at the festival.

Vietnam Classical Drama Theatre (Hanoi), Khanh HoaTraditional Arts Theatre (Khanh Hoa Province), Hue Royal Art Troupe (Hue), NgheRegion Folk Singing Preservation and Development Centre (Nghe An Province), andHue Opera Art Troupe (Hue) will each perform two plays.

The artists will also discuss how to preserve and develop the long history oftheatrical art and how to update the art form to fit the tastes of modernaudiences.-VNA

“Vive la Paix” (Long Live Peace) painting was created by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso in 1954 following the signing of the Geneva Accords and was published on the front page of the French newspaper L’Humanité. Vietnamese Consul General Nguyen Viet Kien stressed that cultural exchange activities serve as a powerful bridge connecting people and strengthening bonds among different communities in Artyom.

The celebrations will feature five high-altitude fireworks sites combined with low-altitude displays, together with low-altitude fireworks at 11 additional locations to serve residents and visitors across the city.

At the centre of the scene, more than 1,000 traditional conical hats were arranged to form a giant teapot and a tea blossom – familiar symbols of Vietnam’s tea culture.

The additional seating in Grandstand A4 will be put into operation ahead of schedule to meet growing demand from both local residents and tourists eager to enjoy one of Vietnam’s most anticipated summer events.

At a press conference held in Hanoi on the afternoon of June 22, organisers said the competition is expected to welcome approximately 15,000 participants competing across the four distances of 42km, 21km, 9.2km and 2.9km.

As the tourism sector seeks to increase visitor spending and extend stays, the development of the night-time economy is increasingly seen as a way to create new tourism products, enhance destination appeal and support sustainable urban growth.

The documentary, filmed in Argentina and Vietnam, centres on Argentine war correspondent Ignacio Ezcurra and the decades-long effort to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death during the Vietnam War.

Beyond avoiding unlawful activities, many young supporters are also helping foster a healthier online environment. Regardless of which team they support, they maintain respect for opponents, coaches and players participating in the tournament.

The concert will celebrate the timeless masterpieces of Russian composers Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Modest Mussorgsky, and Hungarian Béla Bartók.
