Egyptian artists to perform water puppetry in Hanoi

Artists from the Cairo Puppet Theatre will perform the ‘Isis and Osiris’ play through water puppetry, a unique art form of Vietnam, in Hanoi on March 8 and 9.

Artists from the CairoPuppet Theatre will perform the ‘Isis and Osiris’ play throughwater puppetry, a unique art form of Vietnam, in Hanoi on March 8 and 9. 

The show will be directed by artist Mai Mohabwith assistant director Vietnamese People’s Artist Nguyen Tien Dung from the VietnamPuppet Theatre and participation of puppeteers from the Cairo PuppetTheatre. 

‘Isis and Osiris’ is the first water puppet show to be performedin Egypt marking a milestone for the genre in Egypt in particular and in the MiddleEast region.

The play is based on a story from Egyptianmythology. The performances will take place at 10am at the Thang Long PuppetTheatre, 57B Dinh Tien Hoang Street on March 8 and at 9am at the Vietnam PuppetTheatre, 361 Truong Chinh.

A workshop to exchange and share water puppetperformance experiences between Vietnamese and Egyptian artists is being held from3pm on March 7. 

Water puppetry has the potential to develop inEgypt, a country of the Pharaohs with mythological stories and epics related tothe Nile River, according to Mohab. As a result, a three-year co-operativeproject between Egyptian and Vietnamese puppeteers was carried out with a viewto help Egyptian artists perform Vietnamese water puppetry.

The additional seating in Grandstand A4 will be put into operation ahead of schedule to meet growing demand from both local residents and tourists eager to enjoy one of Vietnam’s most anticipated summer events.

As cultural industries and the creative economy gain momentum, AI is proving valuable in improving efficiency, streamlining operations and enabling creators to focus more on artistic content.

The centre is expected to become a vital venue for the Vietnamese community in Thailand to hold on to their cultural identity and language, while doubling as a bridge to further deepen the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
