First Vietnamese artist to join top floral designer competition

HCM City (VNS/VNA) – Bao Hoai Nam, founder of Lavender Flower andPeony Home, will be the first and only Vietnamese artist joining theFTDWorldcup 2019, a top interfloral designer competition.

Begun in 1829, the Interflora World Cup is the world’s most prestigious eventfor the floral industry and design competition that showcases the most talentedfloral designers from around the globe.

The international floral design competition is held every four to six years andhosted in different locations. 

Florists’ Transworld Delivery (FTD) is hosting this premier competition for thefirst time in the US since 1985.

The competition, named FTD World Cup 2019 in recognition of the event’s hostorganisation, will include up to 23 countries and territories and is being heldin Philadelphia at the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show in March.

The winner will be named Interflora World Cup champion.

Mai Hoa, Chairwoman of InterFlora Vietnam, said: “This is a prestigious andprofessional event. Competitors will be selected after three rounds. They havethe right to choose materials without any artificial materials.”

Hoa said that, along with the fashion and movie industry, floral art has now“put its feet on the world”.

She said she hopes the local artist taking part in the event will put Vietnamon the world’s art map.

Hoai Nam, along with being founder of Lavender Flower and Peony Home, is alsofounder of Bonas&Keith. A florist manager at The Grand Ho Tram Strip, Namhas written many books and programmes about flowers.

Nam said: “As a floral designer, participating in the competition is my dreamfor the love of my country and my hometown. My biggest goal is to show thebeauty of my tropical country, which is rich in horticultural varieties, modernlooks and trendy floral arts.”

At the competition, a total of five design tasks have been held on the mainshow floor of the flower show.

The flower show is open to the public starting on March 2 and includes apreliminary round with one prepared design task and one surprise packagecreated by the competitors.

A reception was held featuring a design demonstration by the American Instituteof Floral Designers (AIFD) and the announcement of the 10 semi-finalists.

The semi-final round was held on the main show floor on March 3. The 10semi-finalists was then complete a surprise package design task on the mainshow floor.-VNS/VNA

The additional seating in Grandstand A4 will be put into operation ahead of schedule to meet growing demand from both local residents and tourists eager to enjoy one of Vietnam’s most anticipated summer events.

At a press conference held in Hanoi on the afternoon of June 22, organisers said the competition is expected to welcome approximately 15,000 participants competing across the four distances of 42km, 21km, 9.2km and 2.9km.

Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly defeated Kama Tsubasa of Japan 5–1 to take the title in the women's 68kg class, helping Vietnam complete its target at the continental tournament.

The main festival activities will take place from July 17-19 in Nha Trang, while related events will be held across the province from July 10 to August 10.

More than an annual sporting event, this year’s tournament has become a symbol of the resilience, solidarity and growing strength of the Vietnamese community in Russia.

Quartet Ta Ngoc Tuong, Vu Ngoc Khanh, Tran Dinh Son and Le Ngoc Phuc stunned onlookers with their win in the men's 4x400m event.

The festival aims to showcase the cultural and tourism values of Thang Long – Hanoi, honour the beauty and significance of the lotus in Vietnamese life, and promote lotus-based products as part of efforts to boost the capital’s cultural and tourism industries.

Beyond product display and retail, the village is positioned as an open cultural space where visitors can explore the history of pottery-making, observe production processes, interact with artisans, and take part directly in pottery-making activities.

As cultural industries and the creative economy gain momentum, AI is proving valuable in improving efficiency, streamlining operations and enabling creators to focus more on artistic content.

The centre is expected to become a vital venue for the Vietnamese community in Thailand to hold on to their cultural identity and language, while doubling as a bridge to further deepen the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
