Moscow (VNA) – President ofAzerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reiterated his country’s external policy ofattaching great importance to developing cooperation with the Asian-Pacific regionin general and Vietnam in particular.
He made the statement while receiving VietnameseAmbassador to Russia and Azerbaijan Ngo Duc Manh who came to present credentials to thePresident in Baku on August 23.
The President recalled his State visit toVietnam in 2014 and the official visit to Azerbaijan by then President TruongTan Sang in 2015, describing them as important events that opened up a newchapter in the bilateral relations.
Azerbaijan’s training of many generations of Vietnamesestudents in the field of oil mining also laid a firm foundation for the twocountries to boost their growing ties, he said.
While highlighting the sound traditionalfriendship and huge cooperation potential between Vietnam and Azerbaijan,President Ilham Aliyev suggested focusing on traditional cooperation realms,primarily oil and gas.
As two-way trade remains modest, the two sidesshould increase exports and concretise the outcomes of the second meeting ofthe inter-governmental committee on economic-trade and scientific-technologicalcooperation, which took place in Baku in June, he said.
He supported the Ambassador’s wish to organiseevents in 2019 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of late President Ho ChiMinh’s first arrival in Azerbaijan.
Ambassador Manh affirmed to do his utmost toenhance the cooperation between Vietnam and Azerbaijan as well as connectbusinesses, ministries, and relevant agencies of both sides.-VNA
