Hanoi (VNA) - Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai has been named the Most Valuable Player of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2018 for his significant contributions to the Vietnamese football squad’s victory at the tournament.
With the title, Hai received a 10,000 USD prize from the tournament’s organisation board.
21-year-old Hai played all eight matches for Park Hang-seo’s team and scored three goals. At the second-leg final that took place at Hanoi-based My Dinh National Stadium on December 15 evening, thanks to Hai’s pass, Nguyen Anh Duc made a wonderful score in the sixth minute.
The Hanoi midfielder made his debut for the Golden Dragons against Jordan in June 2017.
He became a favourite among Vietnamese football fans after guiding the nation to the final of the AFC U23 Championship earlier this year scoring five goals in the tournament, according to Fox Sports Asia.
With the only goal scored on December 15 night, Vietnam's national football team brought home the AFF Suzuki Cup trophy, after 10 years.
Vietnam took the first champion title of the AFF Suzuki Cup in 2008, also at My Dinh Stadium.
Following the match, Vietnam glowed bright red as celebrations took place every corner of the country cheering the victory freshly claimed by the men’s football team.
