Anniversary of 11th world youth festival in Cuba marked

Stressing that the specialfriendship and relations between Vietnam and Cuba are an invaluable treasurebuilt and nurtured by generations of leaders, peoples and youths of the twocountries, Pulitburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and headof its Commission for Mass Mobilization Truong Thi Mai affirmed the twofestivals held in Cuba left deep and good imprints on the minds of the younggenerations of Vietnam.
The official, who is alsochairwoman of the association, asked ministries and authorities of the twocountries to push up the exchange of delegations and organize more culturalprogrammes so as to further consolidate and strengthen the solidarity andcloseness between the peoples and young generations of the two countries.
At the ceremony, Mai alsohanded 50,000 USD raised by former Vietnamese delegates to the 11th world youth festival in Cuba to a school named “Bac Ho” (Uncle Ho) in Cuba.
The 11th festivalworld youth festival was held in Cuba from July 28 – August 5, 1978 with theparticipation of over 20,000 delegates from 145 countries representing morethan 2.000 youth organizations throughout the world.
The Vietnamese delegationto the festival included many prominent figures who rendered considerable contributionsto the country during the war and the national construction such as Le Hong Anh,Vo Thi Thang and Pham Tuan. Thang delivered the peace declaration of the world’syouth and students on the closing ceremony of the festival.-VNA
