Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang on August 8 signed decisionson the demotion of two high-ranking police officers following their seriouswrongdoings at work.
Specifically, Tran Viet Tan is demoted from the rank ofSenior Lieutenant General to Lieutenant General, and Bui Van Thanh fromLieutenant General to Colonel, according to Decision 1387/QD-CTN and Decision1388/QD-CTN, respectively.
The decisions took effect on the date of signing.
Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc alsosigned decisions on disciplinary actions against the two officers.
Thanh is dismissed from his post as Deputy Minister ofPublic Security, and Tan is stripped of his title as former Deputy Minister ofPublic Security for the 2011-2016 tenure.
At ameeting of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CommunistParty of Vietnam (CPV) on July 28, it was concluded that Thanh had violatedthe principle of democratic centralism, showed a lack of responsibility and laxleadership, thus letting many wrongdoings and mistakes happen at the GeneralDepartment of Logistics and Technology. He also violated regulations onprotecting State secrets and the working regulations of the Ministry of PublicSecurity. He signed documents proposing the sale of a number of security housesand land plots against the law, and a number of other documents not within hisauthority.
His wrongdoings were declared as causing very seriousconsequences and negatively affecting the prestige of the Party organisationand the Ministry of Public Security.
Meanwhile, Tan showed irresponsibility and lax of leadershipduring his term of office. He also signed some documents in violation ofregulations on protecting state secrets, causing very serious consequences,very badly affecting the prestige of the public security sector and himself,and sparked bad public opinion in society.-VNA
