Hue builds ironwood-floored road along Huong riverbank

A 380m ironwood-floored pedestrian road is under construction along the southern bank of Huong River, one of the most well-known destinations in Hue city in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) –A 380m ironwood-floored pedestrian road is under construction along thesouthern bank of Huong River, one of the most well-known destinations in Huecity in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Sponsored by the KoreaInternational Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the road is designed to connect NguyenDinh Chieu pedestrian street with Ly Tu Trong Park.

With the cost of over 60 billionVND (2.64 million USD), the road will be accompanied by elegant designs of aport, a lotus pond, and a small square, among others.

Its parquet floor, costing 5.73billion VND (around 252,000 USD), will use ironwood which is said to besuitable to the city’s landscape and weather. The KOICA management board saidthe natural material is easy to process, woodworm-free, non-distorted in hotand humid weather, and has good bearing capacity.

Nguyen Van Thanh, Chairman of themunicipal Hue People’s Committee, said the city had made public all informationrelated to the timber-floored road to collect feedback before the construction.The rate of agreement among locals was at 90.62 percent, he added.

The road is part of a planningproject for 15 km of Huong riverbanks from Vong Canh hill to Bao Vinh ancient street.The project is estimated to cost 6 million USD funded by KOICA asnon-refundable assistance.-VNA
