Hanoi(VNS/VNA) - Hanoians will have the chance to witness theartistic and religious values of Himalayan thangka art and see artists at workusing traditional materials from Nepal.
Approximately 80 thangka paintings will be showcased at anexhibition on June 2-3 in Hanoi and on June 9-10 in HCM City. The paintingswill be created in the traditional process combining handicraft and rigorouslytrained talent.
This is the third time Himalayas Vietnam has organised theevent to exhibit and introduce thangka art in the two major cities. Aimed atgiving art enthusiasts a chance to understand the art of enlightenment inTibetan Buddhism, the event will see the participation of some of the mosttalented thangka artists, including Shrestha Bibek.
He is a leading artist at Images of Enlightenment, one ofthe most prestigious art schools in Nepal, where large thangka paintings forNepali and Tibetan monasteries are made.
Thangkas are composite objects produced by painters andtailors with different intents, skills and training. A thangka is athree-dimensional object consisting of a picture panel, which is painted orembroidered; a textile mounting; and one or more of the following: a silkcover, leather corners, wooden dowels at the top and bottom and metal or woodendecorative knobs on the bottom dowel.
