President Ho Chi Minh remembered by overseas Vietnamese

Many activities have been held by Vietnamese people in Spain, Germany and Mexico to mark the 128th birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890).

Hanoi (VNA) – Many activities have been held byVietnamese people in Spain, Germany and Mexico to mark the 128th birthanniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890).

On May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Spainexhibited and auctioned 20 artistic photos to raise funds for disadvantagedchildren in Vietnam. 

The event, organised in coordination withphotographer Tran Viet Ha and jewellery and auction company DURAN, attracted150 participants, including many foreigners and representatives of the diplomaticcorps in Madrid.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Ngo Tien Dungstressed the importance of the cultural diplomatic activity on the occasion ofthe 128th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh and the 41st founding anniversaryof Vietnam-Spain diplomatic ties (May 23, 1977).

A sum of money equivalent to 100 million VND(nearly 4.400 USD) was collected from the auction of 15 photos. The otherphotos can be bought via the website of DURAN.

Later the same day, the embassy held a meetingwith about 70 Spanish families adopting Vietnamese children. 

Nearly 2,000 families across Spain have adoptedVietnamese children over the past two decades. 

Also on May 19, the Association of Fellow Countrymenof Nghe An province in Germany organised a celebration of the 128th birthanniversary of President Ho Chi Minh at the Dong Xuan Centre in Berlin.

Nghe An, a province in central Vietnam, is the home provinceof Ho Chi Minh.

In his speech, Chairman of the Association ofFellow Countrymen of Nghe An Tran Van Dung reviewed the life and career of thelate leader, affirming the pride in and endless tribute to President Ho ChiMinh.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany DoanXuan Hung highlighted the leader’s enormous contributions to the fight for theindependence of Vietnam and the struggle for peace, national independence,democracy and social progress around the world.

Earlier, the embassy staff and the Associationof Nghe An Fellow Countrymen paid respect to Ho Chi Minh at the memorial sitededicated to the President in Moritzburg town, about 15km to the northwest ofDresden city. The memorial site, located in the campus of the previousKäthe-Kollwitz-Heim school, was set up shortly after Ho Chi Minh visited theschool 61 years ago.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese people in Mexico paidtribute to the leader in front of his statue in Mexico City on May 19. TheVietnamese Embassy in Mexico also held a number of activities in May tocelebrate the late President’s birthday and 43 years of the two countries’diplomatic relations (May 19, 1975).

President Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969) was thefounder of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He founded and led the Vietnameserevolution to victory with the establishment of the Democratic Republic ofVietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in 1945.-VNA

The country’s evolving governance model is opening new opportunities for the world to engage with Vietnam while enabling Vietnam to integrate more deeply with the world, further highlighting the attractiveness and vitality of its institutional development.

Vietnam’s development track record shows that the “era of the nation's rise” is a political and theoretical marker of a new development phase. It represents a commitment, a rallying cry for progress, and a shared duty of the Party, people, and army to deliver a strong, prosperous Vietnam by 2045.

Participants offered incense and observed a solemn minute of silence in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives during one of the most significant campaigns in Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and reunification.

The press has taken a leading role in defending the Party’s ideological foundation, countering wrongful and hostile stances, and raising the volume and quality of mainstream information, contributing to a healthy, humane and responsible media environment, said NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

The gift level of 600,000 VND will be granted to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers currently receiving monthly preferential allowances, and individuals who had been awarded the title of before July 28, 2026, but had not yet completed procedures to receive monthly preferential benefits.

The remains were recovered during the 2025–2026 dry-season search and repatriation mission conducted by Team K52 of the Gia Lai provincial Military Command.

The ambassador affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to cooperation with countries, the UN, UNODC, and relevant partners in combating human trafficking. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung called on ministries, sectors and localities to promptly translate the emulation movement into practical action plans and programmes, ensuring that emulation becomes not merely a campaign but a driving force for action, an ecosystem for discovering good models, replicating successful models and best practices.

Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh urged policy beneficiary families to carry forward revolutionary traditions, serve as role models for younger generations, and steer their children to follow Party’s guidelines and the State’s laws and policies, contributing to a more prosperous and civilised province.
